Start the New Year with Solutions!

Happy New Year Fireworks

It is the start of the New Year and to kick it off using some ‘Solution Focus Psychology’ for you and your team do the following:

 

Start by looking at how far you have come rather than solely how far you have to go. Then communicate your findings widely. Too often we start something new without adequately looking at the progress already made and so we don’t benefit from the motivational and psychological nourishment it can make.

 

Secondly map out the goals necessary to reach your ‘Future Perfect’ (aka ‘End in Mind’). Use both aspirational goals and more short term ‘small wins’. Make sure to connect these goals to the overall mission and values of your organisation. This will propel everyone with the power of purpose. And remember the “why behind the what” creates an emotional link to the critical job to be done.

 

Lastly, create a climate of ‘attention to contributions’ where everyone shares the ‘Authentic Contribution’ they plan to make towards their goals and supports each other with enough time and resources.

 

None of these actions are difficult and they can make a big impact on employee engagement – everyone benefits from the ‘high performance’ which flows from being involved in meaningful work.
